To achieve these goals, BURDA Market does not shy away from strategic and technological investments. For a more efficient, systematic, and faster decision-making and management approach, the company chose D-CAT Technologies’ Business Intelligence team to implement SAP Business Objects solutions.
Objectives of the Project
Launched in August 2016, the project aimed to:
- Eliminate IT dependency for BURDA Market’s internal teams, enabling quick reporting and analysis without requiring knowledge of any programming language.
- Provide instant system-generated reports tailored to departmental needs.
- Reduce the analytical burden on live data systems using a data warehouse.
- Address performance and consolidation challenges in reporting.
Key Deliverables
The project, successfully completed in 30 business days, included:
- Source Analysis and Data Consolidation:
Data sources were analyzed, and an ETL process was used to consolidate and structure data for analysis and reporting in a data warehouse.
- Development of SAP Business Objects Solutions:
After the data warehouse setup, SAP Business Objects solutions were developed to meet identified analytical needs.
- Live Deployment:
The system was launched live with contributions from BURDA Market’s IT and reporting teams, supported by user training and infrastructure setup provided by D-CAT Technologies.
Achievements
With the implementation of SAP Business Objects:
- Reports can now be generated without overloading live systems.
- Users no longer need to manually rerun reports; SAP Business Objects’ scheduling feature automates report delivery.
- Consolidated and efficient reporting is enabled through the data warehouse designed for SAP Business Objects.
- Users can independently create, access, and analyze their reports, allowing faster and better decision-making.
- Data security policies ensure controlled access for end users through SAP Business Objects authorizations.

Caffè Nero Türkiye, Financial Performance Tracking Project

Founded by Gerry Ford in 1997, Caffè Nero was born out of a vision to bring the high-quality café culture of Europe to the UK. Aspiring to be an authentic Italian coffee brand, the company focused on delivering first-class espresso-based beverages, fresh and quality food, and creating a neighborhood hub for the community. By the end of 2000, it had grown into a national brand with 31 stores. In 2007, Caffè Nero expanded internationally, opening its first overseas store in Turkey, at İstinye Park in Istanbul. This marked the first partnership in Turkey’s coffee industry.
Today, Caffè Nero operates 50 stores in Turkey across İzmir, Ankara, and Istanbul, including 6 Nero Express locations, with over 600 employees. Serving more than 1,000,000 customers monthly, the brand has become one of the most recognized and beloved coffee chains in Turkey. Globally, it operates nearly 1,000 stores across 7 countries, employing over 5,000 people.
To further enhance the analysis of its financial performance tracking, Caffè Nero Türkiye partnered with D-CAT Technologies’ Business Intelligence team.
Project Objectives and Timeline
The project began in January 2016 and was successfully completed by August 2016. Its goals included:
- Consolidating sales data from Micros systems used in stores and financial data managed through SAP ERP to generate unified reports.
- Preparing standardized report templates for the UK headquarters using Caffè Nero Türkiye’s data.
Key Deliverables
- Data Integration:
Universes and summary tables were created using data from Micros and SAP ERP systems through SSIS.
- Report Development:
Reports were generated covering sales, materials, and financials.
- Training:
Classroom training was provided to the team for effective usage of the developed tools.
- Scenario Analysis Reports:
A sales price scenario analysis report was created, allowing the impact of potential price increases on company profitability to be examined using parameterized data.
- KPI Tracking Reports:
Detailed financial and sales data for Caffè Nero was made available to company management in a Like-for-Like format for use in periodic reviews.
Outcomes
- Unified reporting streamlined operations by consolidating sales and financial data.
- Scenario analysis enabled strategic decision-making regarding pricing strategies and their profitability impacts.
- Regular KPI tracking reports improved transparency and operational insights for the management team.
With this project, Caffè Nero Türkiye achieved greater efficiency and precision in its financial and performance tracking processes.
